Plato and Sauk Rapids staying in Class C
The Plato Blue Jays defeated Sauk Rapids Cyclones in last year's Class C state championship. During the off-season, the board looked at moving both teams up to Class B for 2008. At the January 5 meeting, the two teams made their cases to stay in Class C, and the board voted to keep them in Class C.
With that, the board set up a criteria that will be used to move Class C teams up to Class B after the season. The rule is as follows: After many years of operating with no (criteria) on reclassifying teams, the board came up with the following format: (Effective January 1, 2008 season, the Class “C” Champion and Runner-up will be reclassified to Class “B” for a period of two years. Third year, teams may appeal to be reclassified.). Starting with the 2006 State Tournament, any team in the final (4) two out of three years will also be reclassified to Class “B” for a minimum of two years.
