There are three managerial changes in the Classic Cannon Valley League this year. In Randolph, TJ Nordling is turning over the reins to Andy Pierskalla, a four year Railcat veteran. Randolph went 3-12 in the CCVL last year. In 2008 they were a State Tournament Class C participant losing 3-0 in the first round to Cold Spring. Since then lefty pitcher Caleb Theilbar was drafted and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. He is currently playing in their farm system.
In Miesville, Chris Olean has turned over the managerial duties to Garrett Retka. Retka played the outfield and catcher for the Mudhens the last few seasons. Olean was recently named Interim Head Coach of the St. Thomas Tommies in the MIAC. He had been the pitching coach there for the last nine years and was the logical choice to fill the spot when Dennis Denning retired. Olean says that he will still pitch over the summer, however, he might not make as many games as he has in the past because of the rigorous recruiting responsibilities.
In Dundas, Mike Ludwig has taken over the managerial duties. This will be his sixth season with the Dukes. He has played every position except catcher over those years. Ludwig is a 2003 St. Olaf grad and was drafted by the L. A. Dodgers. He spent two seasons in their farm system and is presently the Sports Information Director at St. Olaf.
Carey Improving
Dan Carey was released from Regions hospital on Thursday, March 11th. He is improving every day and even attended the St. Thomas-Minnesota Gopher baseball game on Wednesday night at the Metrodome. The Gophers won 5-4 in Twelve innings. Dan still has a lot of work to do, but he is in good spirits. He will return to Regions next week for OT and PT and to begin Radiation. Dan is really one of the great guys that have been associated with amateur baseball over the years. We all wish him a fast and full recovery.
Don't forget about the State Board meetings this weekend. On Saturday, March 13th there is a regular meeting and on Sunday, March 14th the Board holds its annual meeting to explain new rules and regulations and hand out league supplies. Both meetings are at the Holiday Inn in St. Cloud and start at 1:00 P.M. each day. SEE YOU IN ST. CLOUD! |
