Bill's Blog--Bid Day--June 12

6:00 P.M.  I'm back and disappointed.  Dundas and Northfield didn't get a bid to host the tournament.  We did get up there about 9:30 with our delegation of eight dedicated baseball people.  I wanted to blog about it right away, however, the Eastside VFW didn't have Wi-Fi that I could get into.

June 4-6 Tournament Results

Four Tournaments were played over the weekend and here are the results:

In Sartell:

The co-host Sartell Muskies rode pitching and defense to win their own tournament, beating 3 quality teams while making only 1 error during the weekend. Tim Burns was named tournament MVP for the second year in a row. He finished the tournament 7-for-12 at the plate and made a game saving catch in the Muskies opening game.

Section Five Still Down a Team

Josh-WigleyThe Cannon Valley League and Section 5 are down a team this year as Apple Valley has decided not to field a team in 2010.  "Last year we had three managers and that didn't work," said Josh Wigley (pictured), who has been with Apple Valley since 1994, "and this year we couldn't get anyone to manage."

Myron Fredrickson of Elko Passes Away

The amateur baseball world lost a huge supporter on Saturday, May 29th as Myron Fredrickson of Elko passed away. He helpd organize the Elko Baseball team and was one of their biggest boosters ever since. Myron managed the Elko team from 1968 to 1973. His son, Terry, is the now the coach of the Elko Express. They won the Class C State Tournament in 2008.

Winsted in New Territory

The Winsted Wildcats are in uncharted territory this year.  By virtue of their two fourth place finishes in the last four years (2007 and 2009) at the State Class C Tournament, they were moved to Class B for the 2010 season.
