There are tons of things going on at the Metrodome this weekend and the MBA is participating in it. It's all in conjunction with TwinsFest and gets going on Friday, January 29 at 4:00 P.M. until 9:30 P.M. Saturday hours are 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Sunday 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Of course the biggest draw is that almost every current player will be on hand along with several former players and managers. Sounds like Jim Thome will be there too. There are autograph sessions and meet and greets all weekend. One Hall of Famer that will be unable to attend is Harmon Killabrew as he just had his gallbladder removed on Wednesday and won't make the trip from Idaho.
TwinsFest will be celebrating the 50th season of Twin's baseball. There will be a Hall of Fame exhibit by Twin's curator Clyde Doepner titled "New Beginnings" and will feature the 1961 Metropolitan Stadium, the 1982 HHH Metrodome and the 2010 Target Field.
There will also be a giant baseball card show, silent and live auctions, youth clinics and a baseball skills area. In the baseball skills area, there will be pitching areas, hitting areas, batting cages and many other participatory things.
The MBA approved funds for a booth at their January meeting and will have a booth on the Metrodome floor. The booth will be manned by the 2010 State Tournament hosts, Willmar and Bird Island. Mike Nagel, Bird Island co-chair, stated that there will be sample baseballs (Fitz-Pro-Col) from Fitzgerald along with pricing and order forms. They will also have magnets with logo dates and web info as give-aways. Their tournament website is: http://www.mnstateamateurbaseball10.com/.
There is even a National Anthem Audition for those of you who would like to sing the National Anthem before a Twins game sometime this season.
