May Day! May Day! May Day!Submitted by Bill NelsonWe’re finally into May and many leagues are starting to play. The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Baseball Association has hired me to write stories and keep you informed as to what’s going on with Amateur Baseball in Minnesota. I will update tournament schedules each week with pairings and results. I’ll talk to people around the state and come up with stories that will be of interest to everyone. What’s a story? Stories are interesting things that are happening with baseball. It can be about a league, team, or an individual player. It can be a fan, a worker at the park, even an umpire. It can be a special event that your team or league is sponsoring. You can help with this. Contact me at: bnbaseballguy@gmail.com or call me at: 507-645-6567. Let me know what is happening in Minnesota Baseball. I’ll work with you to get it out to the state. While I’m at it, here is what I recommend for Tuesday, May 6. Miesville and the St. Paul Saints are going to play in Miesville at 7:30 P.M. This game is in conjunction with the “150 Years of Statehood” festivities. Miesville is one of the storied amateur parks in Minnesota and has hosted two State Amateur Tournaments. Wally the Beerman will be in plying his trade and there will be the usual Saints antics during the game. There will also be fireworks after the game and fans will be allowed to view them from the field. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Remember, Fun is Good! Tickets are $4.00 for Kids and $6.00 for adults. For more information go to: www.miesvillemudhens.com. This coming weekend, the MIAC Tournament will be held in Dundas and Northfield. This tournament features many of the star players in the MBA. It looks like St. Thomas, St. Olaf, and two of the following teams: Hamline, Gustavus, or Bethel will make the tourney. Games start Friday May 9 at 3:30 P.M. and continue with round two at 7:00 P.M. Saturday games are at 1:00 and 5:00 P.M. The if-necessary game is Sunday at 1:00 P.M. This is a four team double elimination tournament. For more information check out the MIAC homepage at: www.miac-online.org. |
